UK - London - Medical exam questions

So I'm 11 months into my CR-1 application. Married to a US Citizen and I'm based in the UK. Currently waiting for USCIS to approve my application to pass NVC. Though hopeful this will be sometime this year. 

 

In regards to the purpose of my post. I have some questions regarding the medical exam. More so what specifically do I take to the exam. This would be in the UK.

 

I've read the list of what to bring, though it doesn't necessarily mention anything regarding medical history. 

 

I have a mental health condition, EUPD. I also have a past history of self harm and a hospitalisation. The last incidence of self harm being more than 3 years ago. 

 

My GP would be happy to write me a letter of support detailing my mental health condition. That my condition is stable and has a positive outlook. That I am not a harm to myself and have never been a harm to others. 

 

Though other than a letter, what other form of paperwork would the examiner want to see? 

 

Would they want dates of when the self harm occured? Would they want dates of hospitalisation? 

 

On the medical questionnaire it asks about any health conditions, hospitalisations, if you've ever caused injury to yourself or others and medications. Then asks to use a separate sheet to go into further detail. 

 

Would the, 'separate sheet', be where I include the letter from my GP and detail the medical history relating to the questions. Could this also be in the form of my GP detailing the history? Or would they want a copy of my medical history. 

 

If anyone could give me some advice or detail their personal experience if similar, it would be much appreciated.

Have a search thought the forum, I know that self harm and London come up.

 

The probably will want something from your Physiologist as well as the GP records.

Not sure what list you’ve got, but you do need to take a summary care record, which is essentially a condensed version of your medical history. 
 

We had our medicals in London a couple of weeks ago and my 18 year old daughter is on Sertaline and has a history of self harm. 
 

We took a letter from her GP - not a ‘letter of support’, what you need is details and facts from your doctor. Dates, treatment, prognosis and the all important phrase (as you’ve mentioned) about not being a danger to yourself or others.
 

You have a more detailed questionnaire to complete when you arrive too, and are asked about hospitalisations. My daughter was questioned about her mental health and the doctor examined her thoroughly to look at how old her scarring was and check for anything fresh. 

It was no problem at all and nothing further was required. I suspect if her self harm was more recent we may have needed a more in-depth report but thankfully didn’t need it.

It should detail my condition, prognosis of my condition and obviously that my condition has been stable for x amount of years and I'm not a harm to myself and not/never been a harm to others. 

 

If there have been hospitalisations. Would I then need details of the dates of hospitalisation, reason, length etc....?

 

Did you feel like the Doctor was very understanding regarding the mental health aspect? Also how much emphasis was there regarding the mental health aspect during the exam?

Yes, your summary record will have any hospitalisations on it anyway, but you also get asked about it on both forms (the one you fill in advance and take with you, and the more detailed one you do there). So you will need dates and reasons.

 

The Doctor was very understanding, she said to my daughter that there seems to be an epidemic of mental health issues for teenagers following Covid and the lockdowns. She wasn't worried about it at all and she could see they were very superficial wounds (you can only see the scars in the right light, but we knew we had to be honest about it). The whole interview was focused on it really (other than the physical exam and weight/height measurements), but then my daughter has nothing else on her medical record. She's never been hospitalised or had any major illnesses, so it was the only thing they had to ask her about.

 

The exact wording on the checklist that you get when you book the medical is "If you have any significant/ongoing/previous medical conditions (i.e depression/diabetes/hypertension etc) please ensure that you bring a report from your GP/Specialist/Consultant regarding this; including, medication, prognosis, management etc. (this includes conditions such as depression, anxiety, diabetes and hypertension)." We got the letter to try and avoid any follow up documents being needed, and it worked for us. 

 

You also have to give details if you tick 'yes' to anything on the form, so we did a one page sheet just giving details of her depression and self harm, her treatment, dates, and other info which we handed in to reception.
