Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone can give me a little clarity on this form. My question is about the "dependents" and whether I should put a 0 or a 1.

Part 2 - Section 13 and Part 3 - Section 14 are what I'm talking about. I don't have any children or dependents, and neither does the beneficiary. I believe I should put 0? I've seen Youtube videos where some people put 1 and some put 0. Am I overthinking this and it doesn't really matter whether if it's a 0 or 1, and that the US consulate agent will understand we're both single and childless?

Also, for sections like "preparer" and "interpreter", if we don't have any information, should I put "N/A" on every line or just leave them blank?

Thanks for any input!

if there are no dependents, no children. Then put '0'.

Most of this is answered in the instructions that come with the form:

The way I read this form, Part 2 Question 13 is where you list your fiancé & any children or other dependents she has that you are agreeing to take responsibility for.

Quote

Provide all of the information requested in the table below about the beneficiary, all of the beneficiary's dependents, and any
other individuals the beneficiary financially supports (do not include any individuals named in Part 3.).  Information about
assets that are not based on employment should be added in Item Number 16. and not in Item Number 13.

It seemed pretty clear to me by the instructions here that at the very least your beneficiary/fiancé will be listed in the table here. It wouldn't make sense that the total number of dependents would ever be zero.

Quote

Relationship to the Beneficiary
(Type or print “Self” if you are filing for
yourself as the beneficiary or “Beneficiary” if
someone is agreeing to support you in
 Part 3.)

Since I was filling out the form on her behalf, I entered my fiance's name in the first column, birthdate & then "Beneficiary" as noted above. Since my fiancé has a son that I have agreed to support & eventually adopt, I added him to the second line. For the last column for income, I simply entered "0" for both.

Thank you for your input. I understand all of that, it's just the "dependents" word. I just feel like she doesn't have any "dependents" so it should be 0. Anyway, I've seen some people on Youtube fill in this section the way you suggested.

So I should just put "1" in the "Total Number of Dependents" section? The "1" would count as "beneficiary" in Part 2 Question 13, and as "self" in Part 3 Section 14?

Also, can I just leave boxes blank or do I have to put N/A in all of the boxes? Example: In the "preparer" and "interpreter" sections.

I left Sections 6 & 7 completely untouched as it didn't apply to our application. Keep in mind that we are in the interview phase of the process so our form has not been checked, validated & accepted as of yet. Like yourself, I watched a few YouTube videos of individuals who prepared the documents for their beneficiaries as well as lawyers who walked through the form to determine how I would fill out our form.

Put 0. You currently have no dependents.

I left preparer, interpreter sections Blank after putting N/A in the first box for those sections

So I have one person that says "1" and another person who says "0".

Bumping this to hopefully get another input.

Reading the form and instructions my inclination is also 0. I think the format makes it confusing, but factually dependents = 0. The example here supports this: https://citizenpath.com/i-134-instructions/

Excellent link, thank you! I feel confident with "0" now. Thanks again!
