Hello,

Seeking some help here. I have tried googling with not much help/conflicting information.

We were married in Jan. 2022. I am the Canadian resident/my spouse is the U.S. Resident.

April 2022 myself and our son moved to the US on an I-20 as I am an international student down here.

In terms of filing our 2022 taxes (married but separately?) does my spouse only need the total of my income for the year to get their taxes done? I cannot file mine before the 2022 Canadian deadline due to awaiting a form from my current educational facility, but if they want to get theirs done ASAP do they just need my total income(?) - I have all my tax slips and know the #'s.

Thanks to anyone who. may be able to provide some insight!

Your spouse does not need your total. However if you are going to file a MFS tax return with the IRS, your spouse needs to know if you will itemize tax deductions or take the standard deduction.

I’m not sure what that means in terms of itemizing tax deductions for Canada…
