Howdy, my wife is the petitioner in form I-130 for her unmarried child under 16.  It was recently approved and is processing in NVC currently.

My question is she is awaiting her 10 year green card and her current card is long expired.  She is hesitant on making that trip for the interview without the 10 year green card in hand.

Does she have to attend the interview for her child or can I or a family member over there attend with her child?

I am sorry if this is confusing.  I tried to word the situation as best I can.  Thank you for your help.

In 2018, my wife was in the U.S. and also waiting for her green card when her 12 year old son had his interview in Ho Chi Minh City.  He attended with a family friend.  The friend carried identification and stayed with him through the entire process.  No issues at all.  - Jason

Your wife's receipt notice for the I-751 should include a sentence about her LPR status being extended by 18 or 24 months. She can travel with the expired green card and the extension letter (if the extension is still valid). But yes, she can also have someone else go to the interview with her child if she prefers.
