A survey of six European countries found an increase in negative attitudes toward Jews.

...

Approximately half the Europeans surveyed said Jews are more loyal to Israel than to their own country, and more than a third said Jews have too much power in business and finance. A majority of respondents in Austria, Hungary and Switzerland said they believe American Jews control U.S. policy on the Middle East.

“More than a decade after the fall of communism, we hoped that such anti-Jewish attitudes would have begun to diminish rather than increase,” ADL National Director Abraham Foxman said.

Its easy to understand why people think this. After all the US does massively prop up Israel to the tune of billions of dollars in aide, and is pretty quiet when Israel does anything bad/illegal. How many UN resolutions is Israel breaking right now? Breaking those was reason enough to go to war with Iraq for the USA after all.

Is that part also "easy to understand"?

There's a reason why I only quoted part of the original post.

Right. I get the politics of it all, but I get the sense that the political disagreements are being used to rationalize a thinly-veiled undercurrent of anti-Semitism. Why else would a thread on European Anti-Semitism (which Europe has a long, proud (/sarc) history of) quickly turn into a dialogue on Bush?

Whereas in the USA there's a culture where if you say anything negative about Israel you're accused of being an anti-semite. This sometimes leads to Americans viewing Europeans who aren't quite as in love with Isreal as they are, as anti-semitic, when in actual fact the dislike of Israel comes from most likely other sources, e.g. empathy with the Palestinian people and anti-Americanism.

You read a post that says a large proportion of Europeans think the Jews control the banking industry (precisely the kind of thinking that led to the events that led to the Holocaust) and all you can do is rant and rave about Bush and Palestine?

Pathetic.

Maybe if you wanted people to refrain from commenting on a particular part of your post, you should have omitted it. Since when has there been a requirement to address *all* points of the original post?

As compared to what? So...how do the Europeans feel about the Muslims they imported to replace them? Enquiring minds want to know. The surveyed Brits have had exceptionally good luck with the Muslims in recent years...haven't they?

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Is this in response to me? I'm not ranting or raving about anything. You're really living up to your name aren't you? ;)

EDIT: Also I never even mentioned Bush did I?

Good question...how long does it take for history to no longer be relevant? Maybe we should ask the Jews?

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Ooh I wonder why.

Could it be because Europeans SLAUGHTERED 6 million Jews not too long ago?

Or maybe because they hate Israel so much they would rather let in hordes of murderous

Islamists into their countries?

Boy, are Jews really stupid or what? Europeans only want what's best for the Jews.

Well, I have to say that this is not precisely the kind of thinking that led to the events that led to the Holocaust. I would say, at the risk of people getting angry at me, that what led to the events of the Holocaust is more the fact that the Allies made Germany pay 33 Billion in reparations, which drove Germany into a huge economic depression, which then led to the people being completely desperate, which eventually allowed for them to believe a madman named Hitler when he said that he wanted to help improve things....which as we all know now was BS and _that_ is what led to the events that led to the Holocaust. And I think that Germans today would rather poke their own eyes out than to let something like anti-semitism take over their country again.
