Taxes for NVC process

Hello

So I am currently waiting on my I-130 to be approved like many others (6 months in), but I did have a question regarding tax forms for when the NVC process is finally here. It took my about 7 months to finally get my tax returns processed and finalized but I have to amend my return due to a missing tax form.

My question: If I amend my return I am afraid it will take a couple months again to get it processed since they are so behind, if the NVC process were to happen first would I just send over the amended return papers or would I submit the most recent tax transcripts even though I would be amending it?

 

I am looking for opinions or thoughts on this before I proceed with amending my tax return since I know I have some time to actually do it.

You can submit a complete copy of your tax RETURNS. They don't have to be processed before submitting them.  They just have to have been sent to the IRS.

Hello,

 I recently just passed the i-130 stage and now my case was transferred to the NVC.  I also amended my taxes.  Could take minimum 4 months.  As soon as my tax guy sends me copies I’m going to fill out form i-864.  Then after my amended taxes are mailed and filed I will order my tax transcripts online and then submit them to the NVC website.   Hope this helps.

Congrats! Yes this does help.

So even though you will be submitting copies of the amended return, you still plan on later submitting the actual transcripts after they update them? I would think just the copies would be ok but if it's better to still submit the transcripts I will keep that in mind.

What I meant about copies was that my tax account will fill out my tax amended forms but he will mail it to me me to sign then I have to mail it to the irs.  I was thinking about just using my tax info from there to fill out sections of my i-864.  I won’t upload my tax transcripts until I get them from the irs.  When you have the interview in the final stage they’re going to want all original documents anyway.  Hope this helps.  I’m learning as I go too lol.  Couldn’t afford to pay someone to do this for me.  Would’ve been mice though!

If you are at the NVC stage yet, why would you wait for tax transcripts when you can upload a copy of the tax returns?  Without them, you will never be document qualified.  You are needlessly delaying your case.

That is a good point...although Initially I myself thought it had to be the actual transcripts but when you stated the copies of the return would be just fine that is some relief. I don't want to have to worry about my amended return still processing in case I get to the NVC stage during it.

Yea I submitted my tax transcript and then for my joint sponsor I just submitted his complete tax return for 2021. So that brought me a lot of relief knowing that wouldn’t be an issue
