01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Peltola has garnered 38.9% of the vote so far (with 90% of the vote counted) whereas Palin has 31.4% and fellow Republican Nick Begich has 28.2%. If just over a third of Begich’s voters put down Peltola as their second choice, then the Democrat will be elected even though 60% of Alaskans wanted a Republican to win as their first choice.

One third  28.2 is about ten percent.  if ten percent  of Republican voters prefer a democrat over another a Republican that’s on them, not ranked choice. 
 

If I had the opportunity to voted in a ranked choice or instant  runoff election, my votes would always be in this order:

 

libertarians in preferred order

Republicans in preferred order

Democrats in preferred order 

greens in preferred order 

communists in preferred order 


It isn’t that hard.  If the average IQ among Alaskans is that low, can’t do much about it.  
 

Ranked choice should be enabling Libertarians to thrive in Alaska, and reducing the Democrat to a third party.

Ranked Choice Voting Leaves Behind Rank Odor

 

As I hinted would happen in my previous column, Alaska's experiment in ranked choice voting had its intended result – the defeat of conservative hero Sarah Palin and the election of the first Democratic member of Congress from the state in more than 50 years.

No wonder Republicans are excited to see the same revolutionary system installed across the nation.

Huh?  Wait, that doesn't make any sense.  Why would Republicans want to see a Democrat elected?  [...]

They ended up with a Democrat winning after 2 Republicans canceled each other out.
