Hello,

I’m currently looking to change my current name to my married name and I’m a conditional permanent resident- in the process of my I-751 (no update since Feb 2022 where they did my fingerprints). I got married in 2018. First step would be to go to the social security office, then the dmv correct? Once that’s done, then for my permanent resident card, is there a way to put in the change now? Or would I have to wait until my i751 has been processed and I get my 10-year card? Would you also recommend I do all of the changes (SSN and DMV) once I get the 10 year green card? I also came in via my British passport and I have an Egyptian one as well (just use to enter Egypt). If I don’t have my married names on those passports, would I be able to travel freely?

FYI- I’m looking to put my current surname as my middle name- not sure if that will affect anything.

Please assist, thanks!

i will wait until naturalization or if you dont want to apply for naturalization, wait until 10 years GC approved. it will be costly though because you need to file i-90 for name change

u can always travel with ur maiden name on ur passport, and if ( one day) ur GC has ur married name, just bring ur marriage certificate as well
