Quick breakdown. Been in the US on a J1 exchange visitor for the last 5 year (not subject to the two year home requirement as from the UK).

Recently got married so am applying for change of status etc right now. All the guidance on the forms has been helpful, taking a long time obviously. I think we have to complete

i-130

i-130a
i-864
i-485
i-131

and i-765.

Everyone I know who has gone through this in the past, or at least something similar, has created an enormous pack and mailed it off to USCIS, however every time I'm on their website for guidance it's advertising that we can submit these forms online.

Basically, why would we not submit online? Are there drawbacks/benefits to either way? Speed is a slight issue here, my J1 Visa expires in a few weeks, but i do have 30 days to 'leave the country' after it does. I'm now thinking that at least for the adjustment of status application (in my eyes the most immediate need) it might be wiser to file online?

Any and all advice welcomed, this is significantly more complicated than we ever anticipated.

Only the I-130/I-130A may be filed online.  All other forms, including the I-485, must be filed by paper mail to the appropriate lockbox facility.

Thanks for the speedy reply! Any merit to doing that do you think, or just put them all in the same packet we are sending off?
