Always good to read USCIS' official instructions, which I will link here along with the exact wording regarding the letter of intent (yes, it is required, from both of you) :

A. Intention to Marry Within 90 Days of Entry.  Submit evidence that you and your fiancé(e) intend to marry within 90 days of your fiancé(e)’s entry as a K-1 nonimmigrant.  Evidence of your intention to marry may include statements of intent to marry signed by both you and your fiancé(e) or any other evidence that establishes, by a preponderance of the evidence, your mutual intention; and...

There is not necessarily a correct way to write the 'letter(s) of intent.' The consensus here on VJ is that it's safer to write two, separate letters; one from you (signed by yourself) and one from your fiancee (signed by her). However, the instructions do not stipulate they must be separate and other filers (like myself) wrote one letter written from the perspective of us 'together,' and my fiancee and I signed it while in each other's presence. That latter route has led to RFEs for some people, so a word of caution on that. Good luck!
