Interview Questions

I have my k1 visa interview coming up in Melbourne Australia, I have a few questions.

  • -When a case is done at another consulate, do they send the entire petition with all documents and attachments?

  • -Do you need to provide any additional evidence of ongoing relationship, due to covid, me and my fiancé could not see each other in person? I can provide chat logs, shared images, and things I've sent her during covid. I don't see it being listed as a required documents, just on the travel.state website for required documents.

  • -Does my fiancé have to do another medical, the Sydney consulate claims that medicals are good for 3-6 months?

  • Does my fiancé need passport original passport photos from me? I've given her a copy of my birth certificate, even though one was already included with petition?

Additional evidence is strongly advised. Table stakes are current statements of intent to marry within 90 days of POE from each future spouse.

I did a Letter of Intent for the re-validation letter, your saying she should do one also?

Also do you carry all your visa paperwork by hand to the interview or place it in a a folder?

A folder with multiple slots works best.

Its up to you how you organize it. At my interview (London, UK) they made clear to only give them the documents that they specifically asked for when at the counter for the initial part of the interview. So it definitely helps if you are organized and can find them quickly. Remember to keep all this stuff safely filed after the k1 is done too, you'll appreciate it later as you do AOS, ROC, naturalization etc - you may well find you need some of these same documents again.

I had my interview this morning at the Melbourne Consulate. I used two manila folders to hold all of my documents...one for the required documents and the other for relationship evidence. Both myself and others who were also there for interviews at the time, were allowed to take their folders upstairs.

I used paperclips to keep the different sections of my documents together.

Best of luck for your interview! 👍

Was the interview long and did they process your interview in Melbourne?

My interview lasted between 10 - 15 minutes, I would say (there was no way to know what the time was). My interview appointment was for 10.30am, I left the consulate at about 12pm. Majority of that time was spent waiting.

As I did not have my partner's original divorce decrees, my application could not be processed here in Melbourne. I was given a yellow 221g form with instructions to obtain the original decrees, and to then send them, along with the rest of my documents, to the Sydney Consulate. My case will be processed there,

Hopefully it will be a smoother process for you. Best of luck!
