I'm a bit lost and looking for a little bit of guidance. I received the notice that the NVC forwarded the petition to the Consulate in Guangzhou on September 24. My fiancée and I then completed and submitted the DS-160 on October 10. I thought the next step would be to continue our application on ustraveldocs, but they require an IV Case ID which I assumed the embassy would send to me or my fiancée. So we started to wait for the Guangzhou embassy to get back to us. It been almost 2 months and no response, and I started to get nervous. A few days ago I discovered that you can check your DS-160 status and now I feel like I've made a really bad mistake. I have been checking it regularly now and it always says no status.

Did I miss critical information on the CEAC Status Check during the past 2 months ?

Does the Consulate send us an IV Case ID once they process our DS-160 ?

Is the Guangzhou Consulate backlogged and is that why we haven't received a response ?

Did I miss or skip a step along the way ?

Any help would be appreciated, Thank you.

We received our IV case number on the e-mail from the NVC informing us that our package was being sent to the consulate. You can also call the NVC to get your case number. I don't think the NIV status check will change until the visa is issued so don't worry too much about seeing No Status on that side. Use the IV status check instead once you have that number.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Guangzhou, but it seems that some consulates will tell you when you can schedule the interview and others just expect you to do it yourself when it says Ready on CEAC.

I received both the letter and email from the NVC that showed a Case Number. I swear I tried to use that case number multiple times by copying and pasting it in in the USTRAVELDOCS application. Out of sheer curiosity I tried it again and it works.... Excuse me while I go slam my head against the wall for wasting 2 months.

Thanks for your help !

Another quick question. To check the status on CEAC we just need our case number. To login with need both our case number and an Invoice ID Number. The NVC has sent us only a Case Number and a USCIS Receipt. Will the NVC send an Invoice ID number later or do we need to complete a step in order to receive it. One the USTRAVELDOCS website it says "Please ensure that you have been notified that your IV Case is ready for scheduling". I'm assuming this is talking about the CEAC status, and I feel like I am skipping a step somewhere by jumping to the  USTRAVELDOCS application.

I'm guessing that, the next step is to fill out the application on the CEAC website. Use the CEAC status check and wait for that to say ready, THEN use USTRAVELDOCS to schedule an appointment with the embassy ?

If this is the case, then when do we get our Invoice ID Number ?

You don’t need an ID number and you don’t need an account on CEAC. K1s have no interaction, no documents to be filled or uploaded on CEAC. All you use it for is to check the case status. The rest of the process is now with the consulate and ustraveldocs.

I see. So the next step for me would be to complete the application on USTRAVELDOCS ? Would that give us our interview appointment date ? Then once we have that date, my fiancée can schedule her medical exam ? Then she just shows up to her interview with her additional supporting documents ? I was under the impression that we would have to submit these supporting documents online ?

I don’t know the process for Guangzhou. Every consulate does things differently, some schedule interviews for you, others don’t. I personally emailed my consulate to ask for further instructions and they replied in 2 weeks. One thing I can answer is that you don’t submit supporting documents online, she’ll bring them to the interview.

I emailed the Guangzhou consulate 2 weeks ago asking for further instructions but I still haven't received a response. Its a bit reassuring that we don't have to submit anything on CEAC. I'm wondering when I tried to complete the USTRAVELDOCS application 2 months when it wasn't accepting our case number, that the consulate wasn't ready for application and now they are ready?

That other thread is interesting though. So it seems that I have received our P3 package that comes from the NVC but now are waiting on our P4 package that is from the consulate ? There doesn't seem to be any critical information in the P4 packet, it looks more like a notification. I am not sure whether to wait longer for some sort of response from the consulate or for this P4 packet, or to just go ahead and try to complete the application on USTRAVELDOCS.
