Hello VJ,

We would like my mother-in-law to visit from Mexico. She has a 10 year tourist visa to US that expires in January. I have heard different things about how US immigration prefers there to be 6 months - 90 days of a validly left on the visa. Is this true?

Thanks,

Luke

You heard wrong things.

She can visit the US as long as she has an unexpired visa.   The expiration date is when she can enter the US.  It doesn't control how long she gets to stay.  She can come in the day before it expires and can get 6 months of stay.
