Leaving the US before receiving Green Card w/ CR1 Visa

We are trying to verify some information we found on VisaJourney.

Upon entering the US with CR1, does one still get the I-515 stamp at the airport?

Secondly, with the stamp, is the immigrant allowed to leave the states and come back _without_ the green card up to a year?

The reason we ask is that we may need to head back to the origin country(Korea) before receiving the card to tie up some loose ends.

Lastly, does the stamp still look like this?

Thank you.

Thank you.

Yes, that's what the stamp looks like, and yes you can leave and re-enter.  The "up to a year" part is no guarantee.  Best to tie up your loose ends promptly and get back within six months.  That's no guarantee either.  CR1 and green card are for residing in the USA permanently.  Each entry is a judgment call.

Jim Hacking talking about the 551. He says sometimes if you leave before you receive the green card, they might not send it... he recommends people stay in the States and get the GC before you the leave the country. You have until the medical expires (so maybe 5-6 months) so if you can tie up your loose ends do it before you move to the States. I've know a few people who left 3-4 months after they received the visa.

Another user on the forum, was not home to receive his GC (because he was in Mexico) and it was sent back to be destroyed. Can't find the link right now... but, basically they tried to deliver the card to the immigrant and because they weren't home to receive it. The card was sent back and destroyed. So, the immigrant now has to apply for a new GC.

Here is Jim on not traveling before you get your GC.

Jim seem to be talking about "safe" as in absolutely safe with no chance of a problem.  In that context, he's right.  There's always risk, but there's risk even WITH the green card.  If one lives their life wearing both belt and suspenders, so be it.  In my experience, there is little risk in travel as long as the trips are of reasonable length.  In the OP's context, I've advised taking care of what they need, as quickly as possible.  I stick by that advice, because I never wear suspenders and seldom wear a belt either nowadays. LOL
