I should receive my LND case number some time this week to finish the last bits of the process and hopefully receive my visa by the end of the month. My sister lives in Toronto and I havent seen her since the start of the pandemic, so my mother and I would like to visit her before I go on my way to the US to activate my visa. Am I allowed to do this or would this potentially cause issues when I fly into Boston? Would it be more sensible to fly directly from the UK to the US, activate my visa and then fly out to Canada? Mind you, there is no UK-US travel corridor, so my mum would have to fly to Canada alone if I were to take this route - which is fine but obviously not fun for her. Additionally, I've been married for less than two years, so I will receive a 2-year conditional green card - I'm still pretty confused on the travel conditions surrounding this, but as I understand it I am allowed to travel 😅

I've looked across the forums here and I gathered that it is ok to do some travelling before activating the visa, as long as you activate your visa within 6 months of your medical, but I havent seen any recent posts or any posts similar to my circumstances on traveling from the UK to stay in Canada for a week and onto the POE in the US.

I don't see why it would cause any issue if you did this either way (fly direct from the UK to Canada, then eventually enter the US assuming you do this while the visa is still valid, or come to the US, and then go to Canada).  Once you do enter the US, you will have a temporary GC in your UK passport, so expect for following all the Covid travel rules, you should have no issue re-entering the US.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your reply. That was my understanding, that either approach should be fine - I think I just needed the reassurance haha.

You should be fine to visit Toronto before activating your US visa at Boston.

As you probably already know Canada is only allowing fully vaccinated foreign travellers to enter the country (unless you are a Canadian, PR or resident, or immediate family of a Canadian, PR or resident; note - siblings are not considered immediate family).

Yes I'm aware of the requirements to enter Canada. I'm fully vaccinated and so is my mum, so that shouldn't be an issue! Thank you for your input 😊
