Hello everyone,

A quick story time, I'm a PhD student in Immunology in Paris, and applied for B1/B2 visa last year 09 March 2020. I was refused under 221g to send my CV and some publications that I have published, I did that right after. And of course due to Covid, I have never heard from them. Now I now that they started to issue visas again. I would like to know if someone has the same conditions that I have.

I regularly check ceac website and the last update is 09 May, 2020 and looks refused, but that time when I sent email, they told me to wait, it is not a definitive answer. So I really do not know how to react.

My question is should I apply new non immigrant visa or still wait? Because it has been more than 1 year

Tourist visas were not being issued during COVID. Apply again this time adding the CV and published articles info with your application.

Well, I really want to know first if it is definitive decision. Since I applied right before the pandemic, I really don't want to pay 150 euros again...

You’ll have to email the consulate and ask if the application is still valid .. but I’m not sure you’ll get a timely answer as they are chasing their tails to get immigrant visas processed.

You should contact the embassy to enquire “Applicants with questions about visa applications currently in process with the Embassy may send their inquiry via … ParisVisaInquiry@state.gov for Nonimmigrant visa applications.”

My understanding is that because of the ban on entry from people who have been in the Schengen area for 2 weeks preceding entry to the US, that  they are not in fact issuing routine B visas. You can confirm this or otherwise when you send your enquiry, as you would need a NIE to travel (unless you spend two weeks in a non banned country first). Details https://fr.usembassy.gov/visas/

Thank you so much taking your time and finding all these information. I, in fact sent tons of emails to this email address every month, no response though. Knowing that they are not issuing B visas is a relief at the moment, because there is no update on my case, I can keep my hopes high I guess.. :)

well, unless you are able to qualify for a NIE it’s moot anyway. Your application will remain valid until it is either issued or a final refusal. I think it’s just stuck in 221g until the ban is lifted.
