hey guys,

I do have exactly the same problem. It is so hard to find real friends here. I'm here now for almost a year and still have just on friend. But she lives in New Hampshire. I live in Massachusetts. Luckyly it is just about a hour away but she is so busy and we never really have time to just get together. I miss it so much just to talk with somebody without beeing afraid that I say something that isnt political correct.

At work I get along with all of the people but nobody seems to really make friends outside of work. After work everybody goes their way. I'm not a partyperson but I would love just to call a friend and go out for coffee or the movies.

I made the same experience that people here are just different with different humor and stuff. For me it always feels like they dont wanna come out of their shell. And I also never know if they mean something or if its just an expression.

Usually they dont mean it and so it is hard to get the few times they do mean it. .......wow that sounds confusing!

Tomorrow is my birthday and Im so sad today already because I dont have anybody who will just drop by how it was at home. :( Oh well, my husband is my best freind though, but sometimes you need a female :)

That is so sad, because I know how you feel. my birthday is next tuesday, and even though my hubbie will take me out, and my parents-in-law are gonna be around, it just isn't the same. You DO need a female around sometimes, to talk about the things you cant talk to your hubbie about....like him! lol

Oldenburg. My husband is from Brake (Unterweser). My husband and I actually met in Oldenburg and I love it there. It is one of my favorite places in Germany.

I am closer to Magnolia, but it isn't like across the street either. Nice to see people from the North though. I have the problem where all the German groups, even those with actual Germans, cater mainly to people from the South. :/

It would be nice to stay in contact with people from the north. Anybody here who lives in Los Angeles? :P Burbank or Santa Clarita? For my children it would be good too to meet german kids, especially in the begining. B)

Oh man, I can't reply to your other post. Keeps saying the open and closing quotes dont match - whatever that means.

So anyway, I wish my daughter had some german friends to play with. She is forgetting it all :( When we left Texas in 2002 to go back to Germany, she only knew English. In German kindergarten she learned it within 2 months! Now she is starting to lose it and I am so sad. I don't want her to end up like i did. I can't even write German. I moved to the US when I was 7 and my mom stopped talking German to me.

Hehe, well, this doesn't exactly describe Northern Germany:

Tracht.jpg

You also may have more luck finding people in your area with these sites maybe:

http://www.germanicans.com/

http://expatgerman.meetup.com/cities/us/ca/los_angeles/

Also, I would call up the German departments at local universities. The professors and instructors normally have a good idea of what is going on in the German speaking community wherever you live.
