i dont know how many had interviews for the same date as me, but i know that only 3 were granted visas. I also know that there were atleast 5 ppl that were denied. This is bascially from talking with ppl waiting for our interview.

Anecdotal data seems to indicate three things.

1. Far more are initially denied or blue slipped than granted.

2. Most initial denials are for missing documentation of some sort.

3. The vast majority of applicants are eventually granted a visa.

As a practical matter, such statistics are of little use. Each case is evaluated on its own merits. It is not a ####### shoot.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

I think it also varies a bit by country as well, and with concerns of fraud. But in general I would agree with that.

Reasons for denial are pretty clear, and you should be able to know if your going to get denied or not. The only gray area is the fraud question, does this couple have a real relationship.

I agree, it varies based on country. On VJ, its rare to hear of a couple being denied at the UK embassy but lots of people get denied or need to present more evidence at high fraud consulates.

As a former consular officer, I agree with the above poster than in the end, far more people are approved than denied. It sometimes bugs me when I see people on this site constantly sharing stories like, "5 people in my row at my interview day got blue sheets, therefore that consulate denies everyone (or insert your own conclusion here)."

Looking at how many applicants leave their interviews with blue sheets versus pink sheets on interview does not give an accurate picture of how many applicants actually end up getting visas. I used to work at a high fraud consulate that was also coincidentally affiliated with a medical exam center that was perpetually late in delivering medical results to us. Therefore, at the beginning of each month, nearly half of all otherwise approvable K1s were denied at the interview stage simply because their medical results were not yet available to us. Most of those visas were issued within the following 10 days. But I wonder how many people sitting in the waiting room went back and posted on Visa Journey afterward about how many applicants were denied that day and how difficult the consular officers were. Just not accurate.

Hi YULEK!

hope it is okay to ask your opinion.

i had my interview last june 20. the consul was a nice lady and she asked just simple questions like what is my fiance's name.address, is he single, am i single, do i have children, and why i want to marry my fiance. me and my fiance were never married and we both dont have children. then she said okay and congratulations and wait for my name to be called outside. i was given the pink slip and paid for the visa delivery. now, it has been 9 working days since that interview and my visa has not yet arrived. my fiance called up the embassy last friday to follow up it and he was told that it is still at the consul's desk and to call back this week thursday or friday but not monday ,tuesday and wednesday because it s holiday. that is all she said and she did not ask for any more documents. may i ask your opinion about it? what could possibly be the reason why she is holding my papers that long? dont tell me she is still enjoying reading my thick emails like she is enjoying reading a pocket book!!! LOL!!! just kidding!!!

you know this visa wait is an agonizing time. any opinion you can share is greatly appreciated.

It's really hard for me to say. If you've already gotten the pink sheet, then it's probably something harmless and you will just have to wait a little more. Sometimes there is somebody in the database with the same name and date of birth as the applicant and the consular officer has to remove the "hit" before he/she can issue a visa. This can take quite a few days because they have to communicate with people in Washington DC about it and it depends on how quickly the folks in the US send a reply and/or remove the hit in the system. But I really don't know for sure. It's quite rare for a pink sheet to be issued and then to wait a very long time for the visa. However, I don't know about your case -- if you applied for a visa before and lied about it or something like that, and the consular officer only discovered it after issuing you the pink sheet, then it might be a long delay. But if everything was on the up and up at your interview, I would just be patient and don't worry. The Department of State can be very slow sometimes and it is a major inconvenience for both Petitioners and Applicants (and consular officers, too, believe it or not). Sorry I can't be more help, but without specific information I can only speculate.

thanks so much for the reply!!!

hope everything is okay with my case. i read many posts here about receiving the pink slip and it took so long for the visa to arrive. i had travelled to other countries already thrice and i did not stay that long. the longest was two months stay.it was only a tour and i remember the pre-interviewing officer asked me about it and i answered honestly. i did apply for a US tourist visa before but i was not lucky. the reason for the denial was my being single. i found copies of my application forms in that tourist visa now and i noticed that i entered the wrong year of my college days in one of the schools i attended in college (i went to 3 different universities during college). i went to that college for a year only and i couldnt remember the year so i just speculated that time but in my application now i entered the right year because i called the school and asked. i gather infos also that even before the interview the embassy already does the investigation. is that true? well, i could understand that especially nowadays that we are on this terrorism age (am i using the right term). i tried hard to think positvely because in the first place i know i have no criminal records whatsoever.
