how do you get to a human at USCIS 800-375-5283  ?

Our I-485 was received months ago but they haven't cashed the check or made any other progress aside from the online receipt notice for the I-485.

I keep trying to call USCIS to find out what is wrong, but I cannot figure out any series of code phases to say in order to be able to speak with a representative.

If anyone has called the USCIS "help" line ( 800-375-5283) and been able to interact with a human being on the other end, can you please tell me what you said in order to get past the automated gate keeper?

Call USCIS, then ask for technical assistance at each prompt.  You will be connected to a human......it has worked recently for others.

Say "technical problem" at every prompt until you get a human agent on the line.  Worked for my husband every time he called the USCIS hotline.

Note that if you are calling about the I-485, it is the immigrant (i.e. the AOS applicant) who must talk to the USCIS rep.  The immigrant can pass the phone to their USC spouse after telling the representative that they give permission to their spouse to speak on their behalf.

Once again I need assistance jumping through USCIS hoops but ran into roadblocks trying to use the world's worst automated "help" system to reach a human being.

Neither "Technical Assistance", "Technical Problem", nor "Representative" work any longer. I do not know a new magic phrase but eventually got into the queue (119 minute estimated time - so be sure your phone can charge while you wait) by talking with the machine for about 10 minutes and eventually giving it my MSC receipt number.

If anyone discovers a shorter, repeatable, way to get to that crackly, static-laden, 30 second muzak loop, please let me know.

Next time try "InfoPass" or "lost receipt" or "no receipt number".

Thank you for this, Chancey. "InfoPass," worked like a charm. Was going crazy getting disconnected. :bonk:
