Hi Everyone,

I feel like we've been waiting an eternity, and now very quickly our case was In Transit for only two days and now Ready! We've waited so long for this and I'm like a deer in the headlights now on what to do next. We got an email from NVC saying it was in transit before, are we waiting for another email from the embassy now? What's next?

Thanks all!

The embassy should send an email to the beneficiary soon.  You can get a head start by looking up what's needed for Packet 3 for Ethiopia.  Some of the common items are police clearance certificate(s), birth certificate, passport size photos, a new set of signed Intent to Marry within 90 days letters from both of you, and the US citizen petitioner filling out the I-134.  Then also filling out and paying for the DS-160, scheduling the medical and scheduling the interview.

Ok thanks friend. How do I look up Packet 3 for Ethiopia?

Yes I know. It is very exciting. NVC suggested I email the embassy. Like the other person said also fill out your forms. Get the police certificate. Any divorce or eligible to marry papers. Practice interview questions. Get the birth certificate. I can already seeing that being a pain.

so exciting... and nerve wracking. Congratulations! I’m dying to know when the potential interview dates are.

EDIT:  Per the guide in the post above, check the regional forums for P3 information from other VJ'ers, or check the embassy website.

This is great. I would not get too excited just yet though. Our NOA-2 was in April 2020. They finally sent our case to the embassy on Feb 16th of this year and radio silence. I called and emailed and they basically said sorry, you just have to wait for the packet as we’re scheduling a limited number of appointments. Going on a month now with no word from them.

Yes it’s hard not to get excited but thanks for that information. On the other hand I have information that they have requested all K1 visas be sent over which potentially means that they at least have some plan to start scheduling them all. Or it could mean absolutely nothing.

I really really hope so!! April 30th will be the end of my visa in Addis and hoping we can go back together but it’s not looking bright.

Congrats to you guys regardless - movement is movement!

Where did you find out they requested all the k1 visas? It sounds like they did based on all of your timelines in this thread! I'm a CR1 with NOA2 in April 2020 and as far as I know they haven't really been requesting many new CR/IR1s be sent to the embassy, which is interesting that they would request one type and not the other. That makes me wonder if they're getting ready to do a k1 processing spree... (do any of you know if k1 actually legally requires an interview? Maybe another interview waiver category from the state department is incoming?) Or do k1s have more processing to do once the case is sent to the embassy that they might be trying to get ahead of? Just trying to make sense of this :)

An immigration lawyer told me they had requested all of them.

I sincerely doubt they’d do interview waivers for k1s or any immigrant visa. But you never know. Maybe in special circumstances. K1 at embassy stage requires police certificate and medical exam but not more processing unless I’m ill informed.

Looks like we finally did get our packet, so maybe expect it in a month and some days at the most?

Also, if anyone knows. When we opened the usvisa-info site, after checking for a day or two a date finally popped up. We clicked it and it then led us to instructions to pay for the visa at the Bank of Abyssinia. Did that today and it was approved letting us move on to scheduling. How exactly does scheduling work though? We chose a date initially before the payment (you have to choose an open date to actually pay) but now it has moved us from the payment to scheduling page and it says no times are available. Is it going to eventually give us times on that first date that we picked or does the NVC/embassy actually assign us a date and time?

Did you get your packet as an email?

Yes, they sent it to mine (the petitioner’s email). It wasn’t sent to my fiancé’s email though.

Oh, thanks for the heads up! I've been telling my fiance to be on the lookout for it but maybe I should be.
