I have just submitted all of my civil documents via the NVC portal today. However, it's been absolutely brutal for my wife trying to file for taxes. We have a fairly complicated situation so this has dragged on and on.

Is it an issue that I'm submitting civil and financial separately? Will they begin to review documents when they only have one set?

Any help appreciated.

They will review when you have uploaded everything

YMMV

Thanks! I am almost tempted to submit the financial section without my wife's (petitioner) tax return. Her Dad is the co-sponsor and I have his return, but it's proving extremely difficult to get my wife's for some reason. The frustrating thing is that she earns no money and hasn't for a long time, so it's her Dad that is covering it.

What is wrong with 2019?

Just in case this helps:

I just submitted all of my documents to NVC and included tax transcripts for 2017, 2018, and 2019. These were accepted and our case is Documentarily Qualified.

My understanding is that since the filing deadline for 2020 taxes is May 17, NVC should accept 2019 tax return documents as the most recent year until after that date.

However, if the interview date is after that filing deadline (which it almost certainly will be), then the 2020 tax return or transcript will need to be provided at that time. So keep working on your return but don't let that stall the process at NVC if you have prior year returns ready to submit.

2019 is her most recent tax return as well as for her father (unless he already submitted 2020). Submit her 2019 which is her requirement. No need for the other years because her joint sponsor is going to be the one with money that qualifies.

A tax transcript for 2019 is better than a return.
