Suggest you apply now, people have been reporting waiting much longer than 6 months for one. See the working & traveling during immigration forum.

Thanks!

If I go outside US after the biometrics were taken (or read here that they give notice that they'll be using the existing biometrics), and I happened to come back again to US before the 2nd permit get released (less than 6 months), will there be no problem since I have a green card?

Yes, you may get some questions but it should be fine.

Less than 6 months I would not expect a problem.

I have another question..

If I decide to not apply for a new re-entry permit and just stay in the US about 2 weeks before it expires then I'll go outside US and will not stay for 1 year outside US, that's fine right? Since I have a GC?

Yes, but again, expect questions about where you are actually residing for spending so long out. Especially if you don’t come back in on a one way ticket after all that.

Hmm after 6 months they eyeball you.  Possibility of secondary.
