Alexandria, Virginia - ASC

Has anyone here been to or know anything about the Alexandria, VA ASC? Is this ASC public transportation accessible?

The USCIS website for this ASC seems to be outdated. It lists a "9-A" bus can be take from the Huntington Metro stop to the ASC, but the 9-A bus terminates AT Huntington. Argh.

Is anyone aware of any taxi cabs that wait by the Metro?

If you or anyone you know has experienced this ASC and how to get there, any input or advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Latos :help:

According to the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority website (WMATA) the 9-A bus does run into Alexandria. Here is the link to the timetable: http://wmata.com/timetables/timetables-state.cfm?State=VA

If worse comes to worse, yes, there are usually taxis waiting at the Metro.

Have not been to the Alexandria ASC myself so I am not exactly sure where it is but if you need any further directions PM me and I will find out.

Good luck!

The ASC office is all the way down route 1 toward Fort Belvior. It's 8 miles from Huntington Metro.

As I suspected. Thanks for both of your replies. I'll need to figure out something by way of getting from Huntington Metro to the ASC. I appreciate you both for your input, thanks.

Thanks. I found the REX (Richmond Express) bus that departs from Huntington Metro and travels down Rte. 1 to the ASC. Thanks again for your help.

It's really easy, just use the WMATA search engine, and when you get on the bus at Huntington Metro be sure to let the bus driver know where you want to get off said bus, because it's not blatently apparent when you get to the office.

OR you could just take a taxi cab from the Metro station. Your call.

I LOVE the wmata.com website!!! It's so incredibly easy to use! It works just like mapquest.com --put in your starting address and your ending address (if you want to add arrival times or departure times you can do that) and then you can filter by limited walking distance, cheapest, least amount of time, an all bus route, all metro route, etc. etc. Ahhh... D.C. is really an amazing place...

And I definitely agree with britbird about talking to the bus driver. They are usually very good about telling you when your stop comes.

Kate,

DC is pretty amazing. Although I must say, after 13-years in New York City... DC is a downgrade in my opinion. I certainly enjoy certain aspects of DC that I didn't have in NYC: a backyard, marginally more affordable housing, cleaner streets, quieter nights etc. One thing I miss about NYC are the ubiquitous cheap ethnic eateries. There are hardly any here. One can expect to spend approx. $20/person for mediocre Thai food. Whereas in NYC, you could get a mama's home cooked Thai style dinner for half the price. Or Vietnamese... mmm.

In NYC, an automobile isn't really needed. Manhattan is pretty self-contained with whatever one desires. You don't really need a car in DC. Public transportation is good, but having a car in DC improves the lifestyle a bit.

Check out NYC's MTA website... www.mta.info.

I totally agree about the expensiveness (if that's a word :P) of D.C.!! I never saved a penny while living there. :P Albeit... I wasn't really making that much, and student loans, but still! Even the grocery stores were expensive... But that didn't deter me from falling in love with the city!!!

I've never lived in NYC, but I've been to visit a few times and had a blast each and every time! Being from TN, I'm just not much of a big city gal. :P Fun to visit though!

As a former NY'er, I wholeheartedly agree with you! DC is more like a big town than a city to me. And I miss good food! Finally found a good bagel at the Georgetown Bagelry, but after 10 years here, I still have not found decent Chinese.

KJ... yeah. So yes, we can both commiserate! :(

I totally agree... no good cheap Chinese food nearby. And not having a car limits our options severely. As for bagels... sigh. I do miss H&H... I still dream about it every so often.

And the big town feel description of DC is spot on. Any receommendations on Japanese food around here? :) Nice to meet another fellow NYker in Dixieland. :)

Hmmm, when I was working in Georgetown, I used to go to a pretty good Japanese place called the Japan Inn. Unfortunately I believe it has since closed. I heard that the owners opened up a new place, also in Georgetown, called Chez Mama-San, but have yet to try it out. So, if you ever go, let me know if it's any good!

BTW, my Canadian husband insists the bagels in Montreal are better than in NY. Obviously he is mistaken.

On Wisconsin Av, there are some fairly inexpensive ethnic food places; one of them is 4912 (that's both its name and its address) a Thai restaurant which has $6.55 ($5.95 + tax) lunch specials.

Between Tenleytown and Friendship Heights metro-stops.
