My husband and I put in separate applications and are now waiting on interview. Will we be sent a joint interview as the spouse has to be present anyway? We don’t want to travel 450 miles twice for separate appointments😩

No one here can intelligently answer your questions unless you provide basic info, such as what visa type it is for, and which consulate etc.

Completing your timeline would help.

The interview is for a green card at London Embassy. All our documents are accepted and we are waiting for an appointment

On what basis is a green card with separate appointments where the spouse has to be present? Who petitioned you?

No such thing as a green card interview at a consulate abroad.   You are applying for a visa.  Please identify which one,  otherwise no prayer of an accurate answer.

YMMV

Our son sent our applications in separately

It is an immigrant visa - we live in Scotland and want to join our son and family in the USA . We have to go to the embassy in London for Our interview and medical. Our applications were done on line so we are waiting on appointments

So that explains why the applications are separate (they have to be for this category), you were incorrect in your first post when you said that your spouse has to attend the interview with you though.  At what stage is your application? Received, approved, have you received documentation qualified from NVC yet?

Providing good information is key to getting good answers.

Your USC son filed separate petitions for you and his father, correct?

If yes, then there are two complete separate cases.  When a USC child petitions a parent, it's only about the two of them.  The parent's spouse is not required or allowed to attend the interview since that person is not part of that case.  You are not required to attend your husband's interview and he is not required to attend your interview.

Since you and your husband would like to attend your respective interviews at the same time for convenience, you can request the NVC to schedule your interviews at the same time.  Contact the NVC.
