Okay, question. PLEASE read carefully. I'd really like some advice.

My IR1 visa is approved. It's currently waiting at the Sydney consulate. I'm in Melbourne and can't travel for my appointment because of border restrictions. The consulate has said they will hold it until I can make an appointment. It was sent to the consulate in July/August. (Can't remember the date).

Now, obviously, the situation in the USA is so uneasy right now, and travel is limited.

What I'd like to do is put a *pin* in my visa and revisit it in the second half of next year.

Does anyone know how I'm able to go about this without losing my entire application?

Thank you for any and all advice.

Oh and also, can anyone please let my know if an application expires before an appointment? No one can tell me and I've asked so many times.

How can your IR1 be approved if you have never had the interview appointment?

Petition doesn't expire as long as you keep in contact with the consulate.   You may need to fill out a new ds260 but that's pretty minor.  Just let the consulate know what you want to do.

YMMV

I guess that's what I mean - I've been approved by the NVC, but not like final final approval.

Can I please ask you how you know the petition doesn't expire? I can't find information on that ANYWHERE.

DQ'd, yes. Not approved.

I need to find information about the petition never expiring. It's critical that it doesn't and I can't find official guidance on this anywhere.

Contact the consulate if you want to learn directly from the source.
