Does anybody know if the 5 years for citizenship start counting from the date the residency was initially granted? or does it start counting from the date they remove the I751 conditions?

thanks

3 Years if through Marriage

Date of initial PR status.

What type of Visa did you enter with. If you entered on a K-1 or K-3 then you only have to wait 3 years to apply for citizenship. I am pretty sure the starting date is the "Resident Since" date on your Permanent Resident Card (Greencard).

K-1 VISA
08-05-06 - Married in Sycamore IL

AOS / EAD
08-24-06 - AOS/EAD mail to Chicago (Day 1)

11-06-06 - GC & Welcome Letter arrive in Mail (Day 75)

I-751
09-23-08 - Sent Package via USPS (Day 1)
01-02-09 - Received GC in mail (with wrong Resident Since date) (Day 101)

As boilter stated.

As soon as you get your temp (2 year green card) your years start counting. But you should be married and also had obtain your green card thru your USA citizen spouse.

The 5 years waiting period to apply for your citizenship is when you obtained your green card thru a non-citizen.
