What type of Visa did you enter with. If you entered on a K-1 or K-3 then you only have to wait 3 years to apply for citizenship. I am pretty sure the starting date is the "Resident Since" date on your Permanent Resident Card (Greencard).

As soon as you get your temp (2 year green card) your years start counting. But you should be married and also had obtain your green card thru your USA citizen spouse.

The 5 years waiting period to apply for your citizenship is when you obtained your green card thru a non-citizen.

It's 5 years from when you were first accorded resident status - conditional or otherwise. You can lodge the N-400 application 90 days prior to the 5th anniversary of your PR status.
