Moving to a new state in a month - OK to file N400?

Hi all,

 

I am moving out of NJ to a new state in a month. Is it OK to file for N400 now?Reason is if I try to file after moving to a new state, I will have to have resided there for 3 months before filing. So I will be losing 4 months time in total.

 

Knowing that I will be moving soon, is it OK to file now? (I've been in NJ for 5 years, so no trouble on that end. I am also waiting my ROC application interview to be scheduled)

I would say yes - the requirement is to be a resident of the state for 3 months at time of filing, nobody can prevent you from moving afterwards.

This is however only my opinion, maybe others have experience with this.

 In addition, applicants are required to show they have resided for at least three months immediately preceding the filing of Form N-400 in the USCIS district or state where the applicant claims to have residency (See 8 CFR §316.2(a)(5) & §319.1(a)(5)).

 

You will have to remember to update your address w USCIS when you move

I definitely meet the requirements for NJ. So I can file and move, as long as I file the change of address after moving?
