Social Security "fun"

Hey, this is the gift that keeps on giving but tl;dr ... don't use DS-260 to apply for a SSN. Fill out form SS-5 and just queue at the nearest office once you've got a permanent address instead.

Longer version:

I fill out form DS-260 and ask DHS to supply my details to SSA.

SSA gets the details and issues a number and card three days later.

Card is sent to my attorney and goes missing. Never received.

Wait three weeks.

SSA office is in the middle of a major IT meltdown. Lady at office gives me my number on a post-it note.

I'm told that she can't correct my address without filing a new SS-5 form.

That's the point where I then find out that DHS did not supply my details correctly. They merged my first and middle names together! And it was issued like that!

So new form with correct details. A new card issued as a missing replacement, this time sent to the correct address and hopefully correct details on it.

10 working days. Gotta love this ;)

My wife marked the box on the DS-260 for a SS card....Received 11 days after POE.....no issues at all.

Lucky you and your spouse. Everything that could have gone wrong, has gone wrong.

Not counting the brand new car that's got trim pieces falling off in the trunk, the back flowing drains in the apartment ... and that's before I'm even able to work!
