Hey Guys,

I'm having trouble with this question: What is your name exactly as it appears on your Permanent Resident Card?

There is a discrepancy in how the N-400 fields are formatted and how the green card is formatted.

This is what the legal name should be:

Given Name (first name): "Joe"

Middle Name: "Harry"

Family Name (last name): "Mason Jones"

But the green card says:

Surname: "Mason Jones"

Given Name "Joe H"

The N-400 is asking "What is your name exactly as it appears on your Permanent Resident Card?" with fields for Given Name, Middle Name and Family name and I'm not sure what to put.

Did you check the back of the card? Often (well for us) the middle name is just an initial on the front but the full name is on the back. I have always put full names as they are printed in full on the backs of our green cards. ( I understand that there is a character limit and sometimes the name on the back is not full either, but that wasn't the case for any of my family).

The back of the card has all 4 names but missing a letter in the middle name.

"Mason>Jones<<Joe<Harr"

So do you put what's on the front of the card or the front? : /

I put our full names, as they are on the back.

And have already successfully naturalized, by the way.

But I'm guessing they see this confusion a lot.

So would I put "Harr" as the middle name as it appears on the back or the full proper "Harry"?
