Hi there, I am looking to see if I am eligible for a USA Citizenship as my dad was born in USA but shortly moved to Canada, but has Duo citizenship now.

I want to move to the usa because my girlfriend is from there and looking into the Canadian immigration process and my skill set I think I could do better in the usa than her being here.

So my question is: If my Dad has duo citizenship, and I'm over 18 (23 now) am I still eligible getting a citizenship through him? also what would the process look like and how long could it take? could I work in USA shortly after. I am a web developer.

Thank you!

At what age did your dad move to Canada?

Hi apple21, he moved when he was 2 1/2 (how long he's also lived in the us). I was not born in USA, but in Canada.

Thanks!

Then no. He needs 5 years residency in the US, 2 of which must be over the age of 14, to have passed it on to you. He can move to the US & sponsor you (approx 7 years wait)

Your father cannot transmit US citizenship to you coz he doesn't meet the required length of residency. If your GF is a US citizen, she can file a K1 fiancee visa for you. It may take a while to get employment authorization thru that. Another option is to marry and she can file i130 CR1 spousal visa. That may take longer but once you enter the US you can start work right away.
