I don't know of any support groups, but I am sure if you search, they must be out there.  From personal experience, here are a few things to do or consider:

  • Rely on your significant other, communicate.  As the USC, I know I can't solve every issue my husband experiences as he adjusts to the USA, but I can definitely ease some nostalgic moments, etc.  For example, he misses his friends back home, so I try to take him out with my friends and my friends's friends.  That way he can meet knew people and make his own.
  • Find local things that remind you of home.  Go to restaurants, find things you can buy to do at home, etc. that are from your home country.  Some communities are stronger than others depending on the state you are living in.  If your state does not have a strong community with your background, maybe the state over does?  A weekend stroll may help you get connected to that community.
  • Try to get out of the routine.  I try to do random dates throughout the week at different times.  Sometimes they are not dates, just outings.  But, I am sure this helps him not feel like he is cooked up in the house following a tedious routine.
  • Think about things you could be doing,  studying or learning some profession, skill, or even a hobby.
  • Talk to VJ, we are always here for anything.  :)
