in Packet # 3, how long does it take(assuming there are no problems with them) on the average for them  to contact the applicant with an appointment date for the interview? I realize it can depend on how busy they are, the time of year, etc. If it seems unduly long, can she call the unit with her case number to get updates?

Our experience was about 2 weeks.  Just make sure you have everything together.  The interview was very easy for my wife and her friend that just went though it this month.

Good luck!!

Thanks! BTW, the day of the interview, as I understand it, she first pays for the hoped-for visa, then has the interview. The $325 fee is non-returnable, regardless of whether or not she gets the visa. Is that right?

It's an application fee, not an issuance fee.

YMMV

Nothing is ever guaranteed or refundable.    In our case they reviewed her documents, sent her to the cashier, and then waited a few hours for the interview.
