hi all,

We filed for N's ROC in May 2018, and her citizenship in May 2019. There is no movement on the ROC files after fingerprinting. N is planning a three month trip to our home country in Dec-Feb 2020. Her planned trip is something she wanted to do for a long time, and she would not like to drop it. Our current I-797 extension expires around mid Feb 2020. How early can we get a I-551 stamp from the local USCIS office? Do we need to build a big case justifying getting the stamp?

Thank you for your inputs!

I think you can try, but sometimes USCIS is hesitant if expiration is not within a month.......having a printed itinerary would strengthen your case, imo.   The only other option is to return prior to expiration of the extension letter.....good luck.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Generally, when you have 30 days left before expire.  You need to call to get an infopass appointment and someone will then call back to you to set an appointment.  Tier 2 officer will only call you , if he or she sees that you needed infopass. In the past, you could take an appointment online and go with paper work to convince personally well ahead of expire date , but that option is now gone.  You can try to call Nov 2019 and explain your situation.
