Affidavit of Support Letters

Hello everyone, when trying to prove a Bona Fide Marriage through affidavit of support letters
Do the people who write the letters need to sign it physically or can they just write their name on the document and call it a day?

The definition of an affidavit is:  “A written statement of facts, sworn to and signed by a deponent before a notary public or some other authority having the power to witness an oath.” In other words, when you sign an affidavit, you’re simply attesting, under law, that you swear a statement written in the affidavit is true.

 

As a side note, affidavits alone are meaningless. They hold little to no weight as far as evidence goes. There are members of this forum who would sign anything affidavits for $10. To prove a Bona Fide marriage, you need documented evidence of times spent together, commingling of financials, assets, taxes, insurances, cohabitation, .... The more of those, the better. You can throw affidavits on top of those.

The Affidavit of Support (I-864 for a CR-1/IR-1 visa) is for financial sponsorship.

 

Affidavits as evidence of a bona fide relationship carry very little to no weight. The CO has no way to verify the facts or question the writer, and nobody ever submits a negative one. Pretty much everybody can find people to write one, including scammers.

 

If you are dead set on providing one anyway (I would suggest focusing on other items), it should cover the evolution of the relationship and describe specific events that they personally observed (e.g. "we all went to xyz together for a weekend on m/d/yyyy to enjoy the beach", not "A and B are such a great couple who were meant for each other). Any non-electronic signature should be fine (no notarization required).

But be sure you have plenty of other evidence. Affidavits are still a last ditch item when you don't have more substantial evidence.

Agree'd with the above.

If you only have say a joint bank account together and a few notarized statements, the statements will basically be brushed off as fluff.

What other proofs were you going to provide?

Thanks for the help guys, I have plenty of other evidence, such as a big photoalbum, including descriptions, facebook posts etc
