IR1 - When to start?

Hello all,

 

I am a USC (and newly naturalized UKC) who has been living with my UKC partner in the UK for the last 6 years (we married in 2013). We are considering moving back to the US. We would like to target a moving date of roughly end of 2020 or beginning of 2021.

 

What do I need to do to prepare for all this? When should I actually apply? I understand that DCF is likely to go the way of the dodo once the USCIS centers get closed in the various embassies, otherwise we'd just plan on doing DCF via London when the time comes. 

 

From what I can see on VJ, the overall CR1/IR1 processing times look to be about 400 days, meaning that perhaps October or so would be a reasonable time to submit a non-DCF application?

It honestly doesn't sound like there's any plans to get rid of DCF in London as of yet.  IR1/CR1 should take about 12-16 months if you choose to go that route for whatever reason.

They could delay the process during the NVC stage by taking their time in submitting their docs as well if they really wanted to
