All,

I just found out my case is on hold pending police certificate, birth certificate and marriage license. I use James' shortcut and sent in the DS230 along with a copy of the bio page from my spouse passport; once the automatic line indicate the form had been generated. So the NVC actually received my DS-230 before I even gotten the package in the mail. Per the NVC rep the process just change and now for my country Jamaica all this info must be mail to the NVC before the package will be complete. By the way I am pursuing the IR1/CR1 process. I have attached the link that the NVC will send you. From that link you select the country your spouse/fiancé is from and you then get instruction based on that country.

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1335.html

(you click on Applicant Document process and from there you can select your country)

Here is my problem...I just when out to this link and reviewed step by step the process and per the NVC website for Jamaica I still only need to send the DS-230 and bio page. Naturally I call back over to the NVC and ask the rep to explain if the process has changed why have the instructions not been updated. Keep in mind the NVC does not send you the package but send you a link to go to their website. The rep could not answer however she did provide me a number to call in Washington, DC to voice my concerns. I have also sent an email to the NVC inquire for additional clarification. My hope is my case was place on hold in error.

The only info we don't have at this time is the police certificate but my husband will be in the US for a short vacation starting June 8; so he will be able to bring that with him then. Looks like I will be losing at least 2 weeks. :crying::crying:

I was also told that now instead of the embassy in Kingston scheduling the interview; this will now be done by the NVC from the US. So it is possible that may cut down on some time.:dance:

The fact that I will be seeing my hubby in just a little bit ... 7 day and about 10 hours.. I refuse to let this get me down :D:D

Bummer. The NVC changed the process about a month ago and caught us all by surprise. James did update his shortcuts to include this information for anyone who didn't know, and also so people can start gathering all that paperwork ahead of time.

that is completely unfair since you are going by the information provided by the link they sent you. unfortunately they make the rules and change them whenever they feel like it without notifying anyone. if the nvc wants those documents, there is no use fighting it, just wait and send the police report. at least you'll be seeing each other soon, you may lose a few weeks but the important thing is that someone is processing the petition and isn't sitting on the bottom of a pile of cases.

 ! step closer to seeing our Husbands...

This sucks. I just sent in my I-864 and IRS transcripts. Waiting on my DS-230 form. Dont have the police record for my husband so I guess it would be smart to get it.

My question is do we send the original or a copy of the police certificate. If we send these in will he need to take it to the interview also. :help:

You need to send in the original documentation. It will not be needed at the time of interview since the paperwork will be sent to the embassy when they schedule the interview. I would make copies of it just in case though.

It is advised that your husband’s/wives bring a copy or original of everything that you sent to NVC because things can get lost even affidavits. and because of terrorism some embassy’s want police certificates that are no later than 2 months so if your interview is more then 2months from the time you got your police certificate I suggest you get one to bring to the interview otherwise they will just tell you everything is fine but they can’t give you your visa till you bring them an updated Police certificate. There have been cases where the spouse gets to the interview everything goes good but then they ask them to bring an updated police certificate befor they can give them there visa so it delays them like another week depending how long the country takes to give them the PC. Take percautions you dont want to be delayed for something stupid like that when you could of had it ahead of time.

For Jamaica, the immigrant will need:

Original Birth Certificate

Original Marriage Certificate

If the immigrant has been divorced, an original divorce decree is required.

A copy of the biographic information page of the immigrant's valid passport.

A copy of a valid Police Certificate

Keep in mind that Jamaica has two forms of birth and marriage documents; the older version is the handwritten kind, which is no longer accepted at post. The newer computer generated version can be obtained in Spanish Town from the Registrar General.
