Ayrton: this is the first AOS appointment for submitting the i-485

There is no appointment for submitting I-485, unless you are meeting with some lawyer/preparer helping you with that, but that doesn't count.

Most people file I-765 and I-131 at same time as I-485 because it is free to do so, they are easy forms they do not require any evidence that you won't already have, and because of the "condom logic:" Better have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

As others pointed out, SS card you will get will have word printed on it requiring DHS authorization. You will not be able to use SS card alone for legal employment.

Thanks again for the follow up explanations:

- Ayrton: this is the first AOS appointment for submitting the i-485

- Treppenwitz: First appointment...not biometrics (thanks for the checklist!)

- Geowrian: thanks for the explanation and the suggestions!  I'm on step 1. come Monday...VJ timeline updated :)

For everyone else, thanks and sorry for the lack of detail in my post.

That doesn't make sense. After you mail the AOS package (i-485/i-131/i-765), the first appointment you get is the biometrics. You can't book an appointment at your local office to apply for AOS.
