Someone just posted something similar in July 2018 filers thread.  My guess is rebalancing in NYC because Brooklyn is quite backed up compared to others:

Long Island:  7 months median

Brooklyn:  14.5 months median

NYC (I guess excluding Queens & BK) 13 months median

Queens: 11.5 months media

I guess so. I don’t see any need for it as I had 2 months for case completion anyway. But, who knows, this may even speed up the process from  the 2 or 3 months to weeks. Let’s see what’s going to happen.

And the processing time whe I checked it I was surprised!

Just received a new notification on N400 application after almost a year from applying. Also, waiting time moved from 2 months  to 16 days and cas completion from 3 months to 2 months, the completion and waiting time normally change by the beginning of every month.

We transferred your application to another USCIS field office for review.

This is the message I received, and also the explanation letter should be online in any time and may take a few days to appear.

Any of you you guys may have an idea about what’s this about?

thanks,

kal

I have the same status as yours this morning. We have very similar case, hope this will be a good sign.

I am in a similar situation - I live in Brooklyn, NY and have not moved anywhere in the past 7 years. Got notices online and in the mail that my case is being transferred to another field office. Actually got 3 at the same time:

- Interview Scheduled on May 30th, 2019 at Brooklyn Field Office

- Interview Cancelled on May 30th, 2019 at Brooklyn Field Office

- Interview Scheduled on June 6th, 2019 at Newark Field Office (New Jersey)

Pretty strange that USCIS scheduled my interview in another state...

This is weird! But hey, upside is that your interview scheduled, congrats!

if you don’t mind me asking, how long did it take before they send or showed that letter on your account?

it’s been like a few days for me now and the letter still not showing on my account. Just the waiting time countdown is like 8 days now. But the case completion is like 2 months should go down to 1 by the beginning of the coming month.

Thanks,

kal

Thanks!

I've got the online notifications in myUSCIS on April 22nd - but it took another day or so for the PDFs to show up in the documents tab. The three paper letters came in the mail today, April 30th - all at once. I think I am going to give them a call to confirm there was no mistake. I have never lived outside of Brooklyn, NY and have not moved around at all for a long while, so this out of state interview is very concerning - I have a car and definitely can and will go there, but I can't imagine that they would do this to bunch of NYC applicants.

Thanks for the quick reply! I got my notifications same date as yours exactly, but still can’t see the PDF letter and nothing has changed since than. You can just send them a message through your inbox. But I think this is it, it’s the workload they are trying to off loads some on other offices as Brooklyn office is pretty packed from what I hear hear. We are not the only ones!

I suppose the workload could be a factor, just a bit worried that I will arrive and hear "oops there was a mistake and we have to reschedule." Taking public transit to that location is almost 2 hours involving two buses, subway and NJ transit train rides - so for someone without a car it would be quite a journey... I came to these forums trying to see if this has happened to anyone else, but I have not quite found a case similar to this where the application was reassigned to a field office in another state, without applicant actually moving to that state... I'll try the 800 number tomorrow and post back with what they say. Hopefully everything is fine - I really don't care where the interview is as long as there is one - I applied in May of last year, so at this point I'd fly cross-country if it meant having it sooner :)

Haha, this is the spirit man! I applied around the same dates! And I just wanna get it over with. I agree with you on the commute, it’s a pain in the neck! Hopefully it’s just going to happen with no confusion at all or sending back. Yes please, keep me posted and I will post once I hear anything. Who knows, we might have our interviews same day Sam office!

good luck!

All right - just got off the phone with USCIS. The rep was very helpful and did confirm that they are moving some of the N400 cases from Kings and Richmond counties (Brooklyn and Staten Island) in NY to the Newark, NJ field office and my interview scheduling is in fact correct. He said that this is temporary for now, starting in June, and only applies to N400 cases. If the interview is successful - the oath ceremony would still be held in Eastern District Court in Brooklyn. My interview is on June 6th at the Newark NJ Field Office.
