another I-134 question

So I'm reading over the required documents to be submitted with the I-134 and it says only 'if self employed: copy of last income tax return' But is it not true that everyone (USA petitioner) either self employed or not has to show last year's tax return with I-134 and possibly the last 3 years? What's up with that and which is correct?

The I-134 is used for many types of visa applications. When used for K-visas it is only one thing that a Conof may use to determine if an applicant will or wont become a public charge. It appears that each Consulate is different on what it requires as supporting documentation and there are Consulates that even like to see 3 years as opposed to one year. Having tax returns on hand can do no harm. You can check with others going through Canada to find what is being asked for.

I submitted no tax returns with my I-134 for my (then) UK citizen fiancee.

Tax returns weren't needed until AOS with the I-864.

Silverbutterfly,

I would have those tax returns ready just in case, because like aussie said, each cosulate is different. I didn't send mine to Gabi in Italy because I was reading the guidelines like you are... well when she got to the Consulate one of the clerks told her she needed my tax returns... Gabi told her that she didn't have them... the clerk seemed indifferent and still admitted her in to have the interview. In the end the Consul himself never asked to see my tax info. Just my $.02

I didn't send any tax returns to my fiance but her consulate (Bogota, Colombia) asked her to submit 3 years tax returns - so I ended up paying Fed Ex $65 to get it there quick! Check with others that have gone through the same consulate to know what they want. Good Luck
