Hi all!

I am interning in the U.S. for about 4-5 more months and we have planned some road trips, hence, I want a U.S. drivers license. The people at the DMV here in Washington D.C. told me I need to apply for a Social Security Number and get rejected and show the DMV the rejection letter before I can apply.

Do you know how I can get such a letter? I just want to make an application and be denied as soon as possible as we are going on a road trip soon. Actually taking the test at the DMV is no problem, so my issue is just getting denied for a SSN. Do anyone have experience with this?

Yes .. you go to SSA office and apply for a SSN. When you are told that you are not eligible , then ask for a letter stating this. We did the same thing to get a government issued document .... the letter from SSA , with our address on it, that was then required as part of the documentation for our driver’s licence in Missouri.  Oh it’s a round about way of getting somewhere that should be straight forward

Thank you so much for your answer!

How quick was this process and were you required to bring all the necessary documents despite you actually wanting to be denied?

The reason why you are denied is because you don’t have all the documents !! Counter intuitive but that’s the way you want it.

Begs the question if you are deemed a resident.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
