Hi all,

I know I am asking this very early in the process but I like to be prepared!
All going well, once married etc and I file for AOS, how soon would I be able to start working and driving?

Would I be waiting until the AOS has all been approved? Does anyone know rough timing?

Did you also file for the EAD card (I765)?  If so, you cannot start working until you receive that card which I believe is taking 4-6 months or more at this time.  Additionally, most states will not issue a DL until you have legal proof of presence in the US with either the EAD or GC.  If you did not file for the EAD, then you will have to wait for the GC.

Good Luck!

Yeah I was going to file that at the time of filing the AOS. I haven't done any of this yet so I was just checking ahead for future info.

Thank you!

Everything in the above post is 100% but it's just increased to 5 to 7 months for EAD with quite a few applicants having to make service enquiries because they are taking beyond that. Its SUPER long right now so prepare yourself mentally.

If you haven’t filed the I765, then you should still be able to submit it without additional cost.  Also, you can look at the processing times for the I485 at your local office (I assume Las Vegas).

Good Luck!
