RFIE

Hello, 

 

I saw on USCIS case tracker that I was mailed out an RFIE for my 485. I am pretty sure I know why. My husband is self employed and I included his 1040 and schedule C but not his W2’s. Also, it was a tax return (says client copy on it) but I wouldn’t doubt them wanting to see something that shows he filed it. So my question is do I have to track down W2’s or can I just order an IRS transcript and will that suffice? So if I send them back a transcript I don’t have to send W2’s and such?

When offered the choice, I would opt for a transcript..........who issued the W-2s if he is self-employed?

Thanks for your quick reply. He does occasional jobs for other contractors when his work slows up. Perfect, so I can order a transcript and that will be all IRS needs to see?

From what I have seen posted, transcripts are preferred since they are official records from the IRS as to what was actually filed and paid (if taxes were owed).  I recently gained access to my tax account (online), and it is very convenient. For example, my 1040 indicated that owed taxes for the 2018 tax year.  I paid the owed amount last month using one of the approved electronic avenues for paying government fees, taxes, etc.  My online IRS account transcript (only 2 or 3 pages) now shows that I filed my taxes, the filing status we used, the tax amount we owed, etc., and an entry showing that the taxes were paid in full.  Transcripts are definitely worth accessing.
