You should receive NOA1 in a couple of days in your mail. Its a document called "Notice of Action I797) it means they got the documents but they won't review the case until some months later.

 

Then you have to wait from 5 to 7 months -according to USCIS processing times- for either an RFE or a NOA2 "Notice of Approval".

He's right on time to ask this questions about EAD and working. Some people get to the US as K1 holders with the idea that they can work right away, and then we blame them for not doing the right research from the beginning.
