Hi everyone. My wife and I are in the midst of preparing our AOS, and we shall put our timeline down soon.

My query is as follows:

I have an old EAD from the time of my F1 (OPT) visa which expired in 2000. On it, is written:

INS A# The numbers show as follows:
999-999-999

Is this number the same as the "A" number asked for in the I-485? Are there extra numbers on my INS number compared with a regular A number?

Thanks,

Latos

YES

Thanks for the quick response, Dan. The only reason I ask is, it was observed earlier that my old A# issued in 1999 has an "extra number" on it compared to its more recent counterpart.

(999-999-999)

Do the more recent A#s issued nowadays contain the same amount of numbers?

A numbers are usually A followed by 9 numbers, but often if the first number is a zero (0) then it gets left off, so it can be written as either:

A-012-456-789 or

A-12-456-789

I should note that on my Green Card the number is of the form "A-0xx-xxx-xxx".

Hi,

I noticed that I had the same A# on my OPT and previous F1 financial hardship EADs.

When I prepared my AOS and EAD paperwork I used that same A#, but then when I received the biometrics appointment letter, I noticed that USCIS had assigned a different A#.

I guess they consider the AOS a different case (I did send them a copy of my OPT EAD though).

Well, on the brighter side - they did not seem upset I used the old A# ...and also I remember on some places they ask for the number on the I-94 arrival slip if I didn't have an A#

:)

AOS

Mar-23-07 : AOS/EAD/I-130 received at Chicago

Mar-28-07 : NOA 1-797

May-04-07: RFE response received at Lee's Summit, MO

May-29-07 Interview scheduled!! Received I-797C, Notice of action dated May 23

Jun-07-07 : E-mail from CRIS stating card production ordered for EAD on June 7th

Jun-12-07 : Another e-mail from CRIS stating card production ordered for EAD on June 12th?!

June 15-07 : E-mail saying that "Approval notice sent" for EAD

July-11-07 Interview, I-130 approved, AOS pending (name check)

Aug-14-07 E-mail from CRIS, notifying a welcoming notice was sent to the new perm. resident!!!

dunno about the touches before that

Hi folks,

Thanks for all the replies, Dr_LHA and most especially iliYANA. That was precisely what I wanted to know. My previous EAD from the F1 OPT had a number "1" as the first digit. To avoid extra confusion, I will just leave my A# blank on my new AOS.

Looking forward to putting our timeline down.

Regards,

LL

Same story with me. I used A# from my F-1 OPT in my AOS application. But now, I've been assigned a new A#.

p.s my application is still pending but no problems so far related to A#
