Hello,

According to our interview notice, we need to bring a certified translation of the birth certificate.

Does anyone know any reliable translators near Hayward, CA or reliable websites that could translate accurately from Japanese to English?

I’ve reached out to places in Hayward and San Francisco and really don’t want to pay around $100-$250 for one brief translated document.

Can you or the immigrant not translate it yourselves? The certification doesn’t need to be from a professional translator, just someone competent in both languages.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

When we sent out our AOS packet we translated the document ourselves, however the interview notice said to bring a certified translation of the birth certificate so I was thinking they actually wanted a certified copy instead of our translated version.

I’m not sure if it matters or not, but I believe my spouse will be interviewing for the 10-year green card since we’ve been married for almost 3 years now.

The request for a certified translated document, is that just a generic request everyone gets from the notice?

Are you a Japanese national living in the US? If so, you can obtain your birth certificate in English at the Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General.

I saw this on one of my Google Search for a certified translator, however I wasn’t sure about the quality in terms of translation.

I was also considering Rev.com as they provide you a draft to check before giving you the final document.

However, it is good to know it worked out! I may consider this in the future as I decided to go with another translator that I found on Atanet.org. It’s more than what I would like to pay, around $75.00, but I suppose it is okay. I just wanted to make sure everything translated well.

Thanks! :)

My husband is actually a Japanese National living in the U.S. I was looking through the Consulate-General of Japan in San Francisco for a form of some kind regarding the family registry... to get the birth certificate translated officially but couldn’t find it.

I only found the ones for a child.

It is fine though. After searching for a good translator and a certain price range I decided to go with an official translator.

Thanks for your help though :)
