Is it worth emailing them, especially if you’ve mailed once already with legitimate questions? 

Just from reading here I get the impression it can be counterproductive.

I wouldn't have thought that it's counterproductive so-to-speak. If you've got legitimate questions, they're there to answer them.

Yes after extended immigrant ap now niv ap for over a week

Seems like they really don't care to respond at all even with legitimate questions. We've sent them maybe 5 or so emails and they've only responded 3 times. Twice was the same word for word AP email and the other was the false hope issued email when we tried to update my US address when I moved last month.
