A few questions after NOA2

Hi everyone,

We finally got our NOA2 on January 31st (Texas Service Center) so our NVC adventure starts now.

I have a few questions:

1) The two USCIS websites and App worked very well as in our approval got announced straight away and we got an email.

If I continue checking those two sites, will I get notified when our case is sent to the NVC? Will there be another change of status?

2) To get our NVC case number, will they send us a physical letter? Or an email on the same email address registered with USCIS? Should we wait for that or call?

3) Our consulate will be Paris. Will we be able to do everything online through electronic processing? If Paris one of those consulates that allow it?

4) In terms of documents required by the Paris consulate, it says that french nationals born abroad need to show the birth certificate issued by the french government + from the country where the individual is born. Do I need to upload both of them at the NVC stage or just bring the second one (Paris specific) at the consulate only?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Answers:

  1. No
  2. They won't send a physical letter and you could be waiting a very long time for them to send an email, if at all.  Allow about two weeks and then start calling.
  3. I'm not sure, call the NVC and ask.
  4. France specific answer needed; otherwise call the NVC.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello MichaelC I had the very same questions as you.  We just received our approval on February 14th.  I'm super excited but still feels like we are at least 90 days from being together again

Based on my experience expect to wait at least 8 weeks from the date the NVC received the case from USCIS before they enter the data into CEAC and issue a case number/ invoice number and send the welcome letter or email.

Don't bother calling within 2 weeks of NOA2, they will have barely received the case file by then.

It's going on more than two months since our NOA2 date (12/21/18 notice date), case sent to department of state either 1/2/19 or 1/3/19 (different depending on which USCIS site to check) case received by NVC 1/10/19, still no case number, called 1/16/19, and 2/19/19, emailed in between. They keep insisting that you should call back only after 8 weeks and 1 day.
