USCIS misspelled my last name on I-485 notice of action. Biometrics appointment?

Hello,

I sent in my I-485 and I-765 forms about two weeks ago and yesterday in mail I received both notices of action for the I-485 and the I-765. However, in the I-485 notice my last name is spelled very noticably incorrectly, but my I-765 notice of action is spelled exactly like it should. I have a fairly common european last name so I don't know how this happened but I called USCIS customer support immediately when I got the letter. On the phone the agent told me that I should hear back within 30 days for the change to go through, but I just received my biometrics appointment in mail again with incorrect spelling. Can I go to the biometrics appointment with this letter? I have the notice of action for the I-765 form with the correct spelling on it which could be used as proof. I'm not sure what to do.

Did you double check the I-485 you submitted? The most likely explanation (though not the only one), is that you misspelled your name on the I-485 that you sent to USCIS. If you're 101% confident that you sent them the right forms, then just wait until USCIS gets back to you and follow up after 30 days if they haven't, since it's their error in that case.

If it's their error and not yours, bring a copy of your I-485 application, the NOA for I-485 with the wrong name, and the NOA for I-765 in the right name. I would do an early walk-in for biometrics with your biometrics notice just in case they want you to come back with another notice (giving you extra time to fix it).

@eckoin I just checked my copies of the forms I submitted. Everything is hand-written so I understand how they made the mistake they did because the "e" could be interpreted as a "c" and the "l" could be interpreted as an "i". The resulting lastname is complete nonsense but I'm happy it came out correctly in the I-765 NOA. Still very surprised someone would read it like that.

I reviewed my entire I-485 and the only page where you might have confusion is the first one where the "e" might look like a "c", every other slot I filled throughout the application is it clearly an "e". My own name is repeated several times in the application and my parents lastname is also clearly spelled this way. I really hope this doesn't turn into a big issue.

As for the "l" looking like an "i" I don't understand, but clearly spelled correctly in every slot.

Pretty sure its scanned and read by a human for the data to be put into the system

M&Ma Did you able to solve the problem? I also got the biometric notice with the last name spelled incorrect. Did they still take your biometric? My NOA for I485 also came incorrect but I called USCIS and they corrected it and also sent me a confirmation email. But then again, I am getting the incorrect name. Do you think they will allow me to take it or not?
