It will probably take 10 years to find the people behind the bombings, justice moves slow in the Philippines.

Even Davao gets bombed about yearly, the latest one I saw was the when they bombed the bus terminal in Digos City. I think it took 10 years to find the person behind that.  Samal Island had a couple of foreigners kidnapped and I think they beheaded both of them.

Bombing seems to be part of life in Mindanao

When I was there last Sept in ZDN I ran into the head of security for the mayor of my fiance's town. He said if I was going to be there more than 5 days he would help arrange some security at no charge for me. It was during election time and there were out of town Muslims filtering in to stir up trouble during the elections. Jeffrey Lim is the name of the mayor. He was kidnapped and held for seven months in 2012. After he was released he went right back to work....Bad***.....

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

Muslims want the whole island believe it's their homeland not just the autonomous region, that being said I feel safer there than in many urban areas in the US

Safer?  In Manila my last trip I had 3 attempted pick pockets in the same area.

Mindanao can be tricky at best, even Davao city has bombing about once per year.  I do keep my head on swivel and stay alert especially once the sun sets in the Philippines.

We stay on the offensive
