Police Certificates

If my wife has her police certificates from the K-1 (Ireland and Korea) and she has not been back to those countries are the certificates still good?  She was in Korea when she was 18 and in Ireland in the early 2000s.  She has never been back to either.  Do we need new certificates?

Ya know, I wouldn't think new ones would be needed.  You used them for the K-1 interview right?  I would think they would be just fine for the CR-1 too

That was my thinking too.  We were emailed the Irish certificate but we only have a copy of the Korean.  We may get a new one so we can present an original.  We have time.

The PCCs remain valid indefinitely so long as one does not return to that country.

That said, sometimes it's easier to just get an updated PCC than show the above.

Looks like the "old" ones are still current and can be used for your CR-1. Here is what they say and the link to the information found toward the bottom of the page.

 

Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

• You are more than 16 years old;
• The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
• You still live in the country that issued the certificate.

Thank you!  That will save the minor hassle of going to the Korean Embassy again.
